Activating Google My Business Chat


Activating Google My Business (GMB) chat in Gymini allows you to streamline communication with your customers directly through the GMB platform. This guide will walk you through the steps to activate and configure GMB chat in Gymini.

GMB messaging is only available on mobile phones right now. Google has not yet rolled Messaging out to the desktop.

GMB messaging works in only one place: in Gymini OR the Google My Business dashboard. If you enable GMB chat within Gymini, you will not see any messages in the Google My Business account.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Connecting Google Account

  • Navigate to Settings: Go to "Settings" and then "Integrations" in your Gymini account.

  • Connect Google Account: Connect a Google account that has access to the Google My Business account you wish to integrate.

  • Select GMB Page: After connecting the Google account, choose the specific GMB page you want to connect.

Step 2: Enabling Messaging

  • Enable Messaging: Once the GMB account is selected, you will notice that the messaging feature is enabled.

  • Activation Time: Note that it can take up to 24 hours for the messaging feature to be activated after connecting the GMB account.

Step 3: Building Triggers

  • Access Triggers: Navigate to "Triggers" to build notifications for yourself or your clients when new chats come in.

  • Create a Trigger: Create a trigger using the "Customer Replied" event and add a filter for the reply channel, selecting "Google My Business Messaging" as the filter option.

  • Define Actions: Set up the actions you want to initiate on the right-hand side of the trigger setup page.

Step 4: Configuring Chat Settings

  • Access Integrations Page: Once the GMB chat is activated, go back to the "Integrations" page.

  • Change Settings: Click "Change Settings" under the GMB section to update the chat settings, defining how the chat will appear when someone initiates a GMB chat.

  • Image Settings: Currently, Google does not allow changing the image in the chat settings. However, this option will be available in Gymini as soon as Google permits it.

If you've connected your Google account before March 1st, 2021, or received the error message below, you must fully disconnect and re-connect your Google Account and then re-select the GMB page.

If you want to reset your Google Account connection or select a different GMB page, you must fully disconnect from your current Google Account and re-connect with the new one.
